... and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a (dor) mouse!
It's Christmas Eve and we like others around the world are preparing for an unusual Christmas during what has been for many a very difficult year.
Old Dairy Barns is quietly wallowing in mud and water, after what feels like endless torrential rain storms through December. We felt great excitement on opening our new post box for the first time and finding it full of Christmas cards from our friends and family back in Sussex and around the country! That truly filled us with happiness and joy, knowing our loved ones are all still out there somewhere, even if we aren't allowed to visit at the moment. We do feel a little strange in this new adopted home county of Somerset, where we know very few people and have been restricted on inviting friends down and travelling back to see people, but building our new home feels good and right. We do miss the familiarity of what we knew, but we are very much looking forward to this exciting adventure moving forward (hopefully a little quicker!) in the spring of 2021.
As we all prepare to head into what seems sure to be another full Covid lockdown after Christmas, as well as a rather messy exit from the EU on 1st January, we hope our plans will not be too adversely effected. We're anticipating supplies from abroad may be interrupted and have been trying to source products manufactured in the UK anyway as our aim is to keep our carbon footprint low, but this may prove to be a wise move avoiding import delays. Lets hope so!
So as I prepare a small turkey breast, reduced numbers of sprouts and pigs-in-blankets, while being determined that Covid won't stop Christmas completely, we'd all like to wish you a really very happy Christmas wherever you are, and a safe and truly positive New Year!
